ADDING A NEW LARS USER

To add a user to LARS do the following.   Changing a users profile can also be accomplished by using the screen in Update mode.

1) Open the LARS configuration program and select Users from the buttons displayed.

2) Make sure that you are in Add mode (default).

3) Type in the User Id in the provided field.

In most cases I suggest that you use the users initials here.  However if your are operating in a network environment that supports the environmental variable %USERNAME% (check with your network administrator), you can use the first 4 letters of the users network login name to have LARS automatically use these characters.  This has the advantage of saving the user time typing these in, and if no password is used this will allow the user to proceed directly to the main menu screen.

4) Tab once to enter the User Name field and type in the user's name.

Full, first, or last names are acceptable; LARS only uses this to show the users name on screen.

5) If you want the new user to be able to run this configuration program on their own the the next step is to place a check in the "User may run configuration program" box.  If not, do not check the box.

6) Make sure to check the "Automatic title update in job entry" box.

7) Make sure that the "Automatic text fit on save" box is not checked since the library doesn't have the capacity for text fitting.

8) If you wish to use a password enter it in the password field.  If you leave this blank no password will be required.

The user flag fields can be used to control certain user abilities depending on options setup in your master INI file.  Most users have no entry in these fields if these flags are necessary for your installation they will be documented at the time of installation.  None of the Bridgeport installations to date have these flags set.

9) Click on the Save button and the user will be added.

If you are adding multiple users at a time you can use the keep feature under the options menu to keep your base setup and just change the User Id and Name on each new user.

You can also use the update mode to change the attributes of any existing user.   Simply click on update in the upper left corner of the screen, make your changes and then click save.

Users can be deleted by selecting update mode and then using the Del. button to remove the user from the system.
